
UNESCO chair at MIT
An UNESCO chair in peace, human rights and democracy has been established at the World Peace Centre of Maharashtra Institute of Technology (MIT), Alandi.
An agreement establishing the chair was signed in Paris on May 12 between UNESCO’s Director General Fredrico Mayer and MIT’s executive president and director Prof. Vishwanath Karad. A delegation led by Prof. Karad and comprising MIT’s vice-president Bhaskar E Avhad, Dr. R Sampatkumar and Prof. Vijay S Rao, represented MIT. The signing ceremony was attended by Chiranjeev Singh, head of the Indian delegation to UNESCO.
Sampat Jain elected
Sampat Jain has been elected president of the Shree Jain Yuvak Sanghatana. Among other office-bearers who have been elected are Bhadresh Bafna as vice-president, Kishore Lodha as secretary, Sohan Oswal as assistant secretary, Jayantilal Ranka as treasurer, and Praveen Palresha as assistant treasurer.
The Sanghatana has organised a lecture on Practice swadeshi for country’s progress’ at the Dadawadi Jain Mandir near Nehru Stadium at 3 p.m. on Tuesday. The lecture will be given by Rajiv Dixit.
Glitterati ’98
The Royal Connaught Boat Club will organise a fashion show, Glitterati 98′, choreographed by Kausar Khan along with a beauty pageant to decide Miss Boat Club 98. The show will be held on May 23.
