
Crime branch to handle murder case
The investigations into Wednesday’s murders of three family members of a watchman by dacoits at Ahura Gardens project in Mundhawa were on Thursday transferred to the crime branch.
Assistant Commissioner of Police Vasant Pagare and Inspector Vinayak Jadhav, who led the newly reactivated anti-dacoity squad of Pune police have been assigned to investigate the case.
Preliminary investigations have revealed that the murders took place shortly after midnight, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ramrao Pawar said.The identities of the culprits are yet to be ascertained. Meanwhile, police teams have been sent to Solapur and Ahmednagar to investigate whether gangs operating there were involved in the crime.
Meanwhile, the dead bodies of three victims, Gangubai Laxman Bharamshetty (30), her husband Laxman (35) and their ten-year-old daughter Sarubai, were sent to their native place in Solapur district after postmortem at Sassoon Hospitalaccording to the police.
The six injured, Mangal Badaule, Gajarabai Badaule, Nagesh Badaule, Ujwala Badaule, Sangita Bharamshetty and Arjun Bharamshetty are still undergoing treatment. They are yet to regain consciousness, police said.
Van De Sand on visit to city
Klemens Van De Sand, assistant president of The International Funds for Agriculture Development (IFAD), which funds rural development projects, will be on a two-day visit to Pune from Saturday. Sand will be visiting some of the 112 beneficiary villages in Pune district during his stay in the city.
