
Basmati seeds
Borgaon: The Mahatma Phule Agricultural University, Rahuri would use 673 and 834 basmati rice seeds from Delhi to produce quality seeds, Vice-Chancellor Yogendra Nerkar said here recently.
Addressing a rally of over 1000 farmers organised by the Agriculture College here, Dr. Nerkar said although Satara district cultivates rice on a large scale, farmers face acute shortage of quality seeds. He said the university would also appoint a team of scientists to conduct research on ginger.

Choudhary honoured
Dr K R Choudhary, head of radiology department at Dr D Y Patil Medical College, Pimpri, was given the lifetime achievement award at the International Congress of Radiology held at New Delhi recently.
Award for books in Marathi
Marathi Manasashastra Parishad will present awards to best Marathi books related to the topic of psychology. Three copies of the book should be submitted to the Parishad office at Jnana Prabodhini, Sadashiv Peth, before October 15.

Media Melange ’98
The students of University of Pune’s Department of Communication Studies are organising their annual seminar, Media Melange ’98 at National Chemical Laboratory auditorium on Sunday.
The seminar will be inaugurated by Discovery Channel chief executive officer Dr. Kiran Karnik. The seminar intends to throw light on the contemporary media scene in India. It will cover four facets of media namely cinema, advertising, television and journalism.
Among the eminent media personalities attending the seminar will be Kundan Shah, Jerry Pinto, Vinay Dhumale, Nishit Kumar and Sudhir Mishra.
