As expected, the grand finale of the Express PowerGolf tournament at the DLF Golf and Country Club today turned out to be a keenly contested affair. The creme-de-la-creme of the corporate world headed to the course early this morning to compete in the 18-hole Stableford event. But it was Puneet Kai Suri , who won the return ticket to Vienna, courtesy Austrian Airlines, with his best individual score in the men’s category, while Harinder Bansi came behind him. He tied Anil Rajput with an identical score of 42 points, but a better back nine saw him finish in overall second place.

short article insert Mukta Malhotra accumulated 42 points to win the prize for the lowest score carded by a lady golfer, also a return ticket to Vienna. A dedicated golfer, Champika Sayal was the runner-up in this category with her total of 38 points.

Scott Bayman, Ashish Bhushan, Vishal Choudhary and Anil Rajput won the team prize with 150 points. Bayman scored 40 points, Bhushan accumulated 38 points, Choudhary had 30 points and Rajput had 42 points, just ahead of the rest of the pack. The runner-up team prize was won by Sanjeev Mital, who scored 37 points, Sanjeev Puri who had 37 points, Ashok Sahni who accumulated 33 points and Neeraj Wadhera who gathered 31 points, with their team total of 148 points.

Tarun Jain won the prize for the closest shot to the pin in the men’s category, after he hit his iron shot to seven feet two inches, while Anita Bhatia won the same prize in the ladies category with her effort to 21 feet five inches.

The prize for the two longest drives went to Sunil Jasuja who hit his drive to 290 yards off the men’s tee, and Pooja Batra, who hit her drive to 263 yards from the ladies tee.

With numerous prizes on offer, players played seriously in order to card low scores and accumulate the most points.

However, Kapil Dev, who played just nine holes after driving to Delhi from Chandigarh this morning showed his excellent skills as he shot level par on the back nine, where he caught up with his playing partners. ‘‘I shot par for nine holes,’’ said Kapil, ‘‘so, my game was not bad.’’

Meanwhile, Ramesh Marwah, Regional Director (North), Austrian Airlines, said, ‘‘I enjoyed my round today and this was best I have played in the three Express PowerGolf tournaments that I have participated in so far.’’
