Congress observer for Punjab Mohsina Kidwai has asked state party president H.S. Hanspal to look into allegations that Punjab ministers on campaign in Gujarat indulged in ‘‘objectionable activities’’, involving a woman and a hotel manager.

Congress MLAs Malkiat Singh Birmi and Bir Devinder Singh have reportedly complained against three ministers from the state sent by the party for campaigning. Hanspal will check if the charges are true or if the MLAs merit disciplinary action for raising the issue. Recently, Birmi had made the allegation publicly.

CM Amarinder Singh tried to convince Kidwani at a luncheon

meeting today that the charges were baseless. Earlier in the day, he had defended his ministers at a press conference and said reports from Gujarat, including from the police, say the ministers were innocent.

The Akali Dal-BJP alliance has pounced on the allegations to gun for the government. The Opposition leader has already demanded action against the ministers and today, state BJP president Brij Lal Rinwa joined the issue.
