The services of 34 state government employees were terminated yesterday after it was discovered that they had been reinstated after or on the verge of retirement violating appointments criteria.

The order passed by the government yesterday not only terminated their service saying departments should not be converted into ‘‘old age homes’’ but also demanded that records in their possession be seized. In case of any missing record, an FIR would be lodged.

Senior positions like that of superintending engineer as well as additional commissioner had been filled from among the ranks of the retired during the tenure of the previous government. The 34 people relieved yesterday included some who are now over 65 years of age.
