CHANDIGARH, JULY 27: Punjab Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal today deputed a high-level team, led by Chief Secretary R.S. Mann, to visit the flood-affected areas in the state tomorrow.
The Chief Minister reviewed the flood situation, especially in Sangrur and Patiala districts, with senior officers. Parts of these two districts have been flooded due to a breach in Ghaggar. These areas face this problem every year during monsoons. A spokesman of the Irrigation Department claimed that flood protection works had been completed at a cost of Rs 16.5 crore in the districts of Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Ludhiana, Ropar, Ferozepur, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Nawanshahr and Hoshiarpur. This is besides the Rs 27.8-crore project to save the areas from the fury of the Ghaggar.
