Mumbai, February 24: The Bharatiya Janata Party’s sitting MP from Nagpur, Banwarilal Purohit, now in the Congress, today described BJP general secretary Pramod Mahajan as “a traitor to the nation” and charged him with “selling the defence interests of the country down the drain for a little personal gratification”.

Addressing reporters at Congress Party office this afternoon, Purohit, who is in the city to campaign for Congress candidate Gurudas Kamat pitted against Mahajan in Mumbai north-east, said having spent six years in BJP, he had come to the conclusion that “Its claims of honesty, character and integrity were hollow”. He reiterated for yet another times all his allegations about Mahajan’s malfeasance in the Bhadravati projects.
