CHANDIGARH, March 11: The Punjab University Teachers’ Association has decided to go on mass casual leave tomorrow to protest against the non-implementation of UGC guidelines in toto by the Punjab government.

The teachers will join their counterparts from all over Punjab at the Parade Grounds in Sector 17 at 11.30 a.m., from where they will march to the Vidhan Sabha.

Their demands include transport allowance, increments for those with PhD degrees and who are to be promoted to Reader’s grade, and Rs 14,940 grade for Readers with five years of service.

The association has also decided to boycott paper-setting till the issuance of correct notification.

The members of Chandigarh NSUI joined the dharna by the Haryana Students Association of PU, in front of the office of Punjab University Vice-Chancellor, against the proposed fee hike by the authorities.

According NSUI city unit president Harmohinder Singh Lucky the union members will also join the relay fast from tomorrow.

Meanwhile, the Punjab University has sponsored Punjab University Campus Students’ Council president D. P. S. Randhawa to participate in the International Student Festival-99 in Norway. The festival, which started on March 5, will continue till March 14.
