The outlawed People’s War Group today reciprocated the Andhra Pradesh government’s three-month ceasefire offer and promised to nominate its delegates to hold talks with the government soon. The ceasefire has been in place since June 16.

PWG state secretary Ramakrishna alias Akkiraju Haragopal, in a statement released to the media, said they have taken note of the state government’s unilateral ceasefire from June 16 and have come forward to announce the same from their side.

‘‘We will also observe a ceasefire and ensure that there is no exchange of fire from our side,’’ Ramakrishna said.

The state government had been waiting for the Naxals’ response to Home Minister K. Jana Reddy’s offer to end hostilities.

Explaining the delay in communicating the outfit’s decision, Ramakrishna said that as the PWG was a banned organisation, it would take some time for them to respond to the government’s proposals. Jana Reddy, who discussed the PWG’s statement with senior police officials this evening, is understood to have expressed satisfaction over the progress of the talks process.
