MUMBAI, October 24: B Pyngrope of Indian Navy scored two impressive victories on the opening day of the three-day Maharashtra State Open Invitational Boxing Championships at the Central Maidan here, today.

Pyngrope outclassed both his opponents R Mahajan (AG College, Nagpur) and J Jadhav (CR Inst) winning in the first rounds.

In the light flyweight category, G Bahadur of Vishwajit Sports Club was stylish and faced a slugger in M Kanojia (TDBA).

Bahadur waded in and out and connected his jabs with regularity. But Kanojia could withstand all the punishment his opponent could throw at him and with a little bit of technique and ring craft could have made an impact. In the feather-weight PP Singh of Indian Navy was very confident and started on the right note with a straight right throwing S Mahagaonkar of Sunday Sporting Association on the ropes Mahagaonkar did come back strongly could not upset Singh who won on points.
