Mansingh new foreign secretary

A 1963-batch Indian Foreign Service officer, Mansingh has served in a number of Indian missions abroad, besides holding important positions in the External Affairs Ministry and the Economic Affairs Department of the Finance Ministry. Mansingh’s name for the top slot was cleared by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet.

SRINAGAR:TWO Border Security Force (BSF) personnel were seriously injured when a landmine planted by militants blew up their vehicle in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, an official spokesman said here today.

Militants had laid the landmine last night on the main road linking Sopore and Bandipora near Adipora village and detonated it when a BSF vehicle passed on way to Bandipora, the spokesman said. Two jawans were injured in the explosion and the vehicle was partially damaged, he said. No militant outfit has claimed responsibility for the blast so far.

CBI case against ex-commissioner

NEW DELHI:THE CBI has registered a case against a former commissioner of Income Tax and five others, including a chartered accountant, for allegedly causing a loss of Rs 1.10 crore to the department.

The accused officer has "abused" his official position while functioning as commissioner of Income Tax, Bangalore, and "entered into a criminal conspiracy along with five persons with the intention to cheat the department", a CBI release said here today.
