5 armymen die in Assam blast
GUWAHATI: A captain and four Army jawans of six Kumaon Regiment were killed and six critically injured on Friday when a time bomb, planted by suspected Bodo militants blew up their vehicle at Hastapur in Assam’s Darrang district, an official report said. The injured were shifted to hospital. The patrol was proceeding by a jeep to Tamgla from Khairabari when the ultras exploded the bomb with a time device at Hastapur.
Bihar boat mishap
MADHEPURA (Bihar): At least 35 persons were feared drowned, when a country boat capsized in the mid-stream of the turbulent Kosi river, near Bijayghat in Udakishanganj subdivision of Madhepura district today, according to district magistrate Rajendra Prasad.
Fishermen killed
CHENNAI: Two Indian fishermen were shot dead and two others received bullet injuries when two Sri Lankan Navy helicopters fired at them off Arkattuthruai coast in Tamil Nadu’s Nagapattinam district on Thursday evening. A release here said that six fishermen from Pamban in Ramanathapuram district were fishing in their mechanised boat when the incident took place. The two other fishermen in the boat escaped unhurt.
Pathfinder resets
PASADENA: NASA engineers have solved the software problem that caused several resets of the overloaded Mars Pathfinder computer and slowed transmission of pictures and other data to earth. The engineers will radio up a software change on Saturday, project manager Brian Muirhead said on Thursday.
