Pak troops attack J&K villages
Srinagar: Pakistani troops targeted three border villages in Rambir Singh Pora of Jammu sector, while a militant was killed and four armymen wounded in a separate encounter in Kashmir valley on Tuesday. Militants also made an abortive attempt to blow up a security picket and exploded a powerful land-mine in the valley, an official spokesman said.

Calcutta: The West Bengal police have made tight security arrangements apprehending trouble during the second phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state on February 28. The inspector-general of police (law and order) Prasun Mukherjee said vigilance had been increased to prevent entry of criminals into the 22 constituencies going to the polls on February 28. Altogether 12,181 people have been arrested, 8,800 under warrants, and 289 firearms have been recovered. Forty companies of central forces have been deployed.
Special trains
Chennai: Southern Railway is to run 896 Holiday Express’ trainsfrom April to June this year to meet the heavy passenger rush during the summer vacation. A railway press release said fortnightly, weekly, biweekly, tri-weekly, daily and five-day services would be operated. Advance reservation for the trains would commence from tomorrow at all computerised reservation centres.
Curfew relaxed
Jaipur: Indefinite curfew, clamped in two police station areas in Ajmer city last week, was relaxed for the whole day on Tuesday after tension eased for the first time in seven days. The city witnessed communal violence near the dargah of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti on February 17, forcing the administration to clamp curfew to prevent escalation of violence. Prohibitory orders are in force.
