Raju, Kumble back in team

MUMBAI: The national cricket selectors have recalled Karnataka’s Rahul Dravid and Anil Kumble in the 14-man Indian squad for the first Test against Australia starting on March 6 at Chennai. Rajesh Chauhan and Venkatapathy Raju also find a place in the squad. Also included for the time for Tests was Punjab medium-pacer Harvinder Singh.

THE TEAM: Mohammed Azaharuddin (capt), Navjot Singh Sidhu, Sachin Tendulkar, Rahul Dravid, Saurav Ganguly, Nayan Mongia, Hrishikesh Kanitkar, VVS Laxman, Anil Kumble, Rajesh Chauhan, Venkatpathy Raju, Javagal Srinath, Harvinder Singh and Debasish Mohanty.

Hurriyat arrests

SRINAGAR: Four leaders of the Hurriyat Conference, including chairman Mirwaiz Moulvi Umer Farooq, were arrested on Wednesday while two secessionist leaders were placed under “house arrest”. The Mirwaiz, arrested with Hurriyat chief spokesman Prof Abdul Gani and senior executive member Mohammad Yaseen Malik, was immediately released. A Hurriyat spokesmansaid the administration was “unnerved” by the response of the people to the rallies being addressed by the leaders.

Hostages released

AGARTALA: Two central government employees, detained by the banned National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), were released unhurt on Wednesday.
