
Palmolein price cut
NEW DELHI: The Government today reduced with immediate effect the price of palmolein sold in bulk to the states for supply through ration shops to Rs 24,000 a tonne from Rs 30,000. The Cabinet Committee on Prices (CCP), which cleared the cut for palmolein, also decided to reduce prices of the oil sold in 15 kg tins to Rs 390 from Rs 495.
Pak match-fixing
ISLAMABAD: The match-fixing imbroglio surrounding Pakistani cricket has taken a new turn with reports that four of the players vice-captain Moin Khan, Inzamam-ul-Haq, Mushtaq Ahmed and Waqar Younis have been given a clean chit by the new chief of Pakistan Cricket Board while skipper Wasim Akram has vowed to fight it out’ to prove his innocence.
Chautala wins
CHANDIGARH: The Om Prakash Chautala ministry in Haryana tonight won the vote of confidence comfortably by a margin of 54-32 at a special session of the state assembly ending nearly a month-long political turmoil. Chautala now hasan effective strength of 89 in the House.
Assam ambush
GUWAHATI: In a major ambush in central Assam today, NSCN ultras killed six people, including five policemen, and injured six others. The incident occurred when a police party passing through a dense jungle was shot at by militants with automatic rifles.

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court today directed the Union Government to place on record entire facts regarding its decision to ban recycled’ plastic bags and other materials considered dangerous for health.
Cop stabbed
NAGPUR: A convict, serving a life term, today stabbed to death a police constable escorting him and escaped. The incident took place when the constable Kiran Shinde (28) was taking the convict, Raju Dubey, to the hospital for treatment. Sathe, who sustained multiple injuries succumbed to his injuries.
