
CHANDIGARH, June 7: A special police investigation team was constituted to probe Friday’s bomb blast in a bus at Pathankot in Punjab which killed seven people and injured several others. The team, headed by DIG (border range) Sukhdial Singh Bhullar, will submit its weekly reports to State Director General of Police P C Dogra, an official release said.

MUMBAI: Marathwada, western Maharashtra and Konkan areas of the state plunged into darkness around 6 pm on Saturday due to a breakdown in Chandrapur power station’s switchyard following a thunderstorm. The thunderstorm also resulted in tripping of 400 KV and 220 KV incoming and outgoing lines in the station, a Maharashtra State Electricity Board (MSEB) spokesman said. However, power stations of Tata, BSES and MSEB in Mumbai and Nashik were unaffected and power supply was normal in Mumbai and in the Vidarbha region, the spokesman said.

NEW DELHI: Ajit Singh has been elected unopposed as the national president of the Bharatiya Kisan Kamgaar Party (BKKP). This was announced here by the national returning officer of the party, Dhirendra Pratap on Saturday.
Probe ordered
MUMBAI: The Maharashtra Government decided to institute an inquiry into allegations of criminal links against some politicians. In a statement here on Saturday night, Chief Minister Manohar Joshi announced that a special officer would be appointed for this purpose. “There has been an increase in allegations about a politician-criminal nexus in the state”, Joshi noted. “This encourages criminals thereby putting law and order in peril”, he added.
