LUCKNOW: AT least 36 people were killed and 50 injured in different parts of eastern UP following a major cyclonic storm on Sunday night, official reports said here. Of these 13 people died in Azamgarh, 11 in Varanasi and Chandauli, six in Sultanpur, four in Hardoi and two in Mau in the high speed storm which lasted for nearly six hours paralysing life totally. Power and telephone lines were disrupted, hundreds of kutcha houses blown away, cattle heads killed and standing crops of potato and mustard damaged.

SRINAGAR: Kashmir security forces have arrested a top militant in a breakthrough which is likely to lead to the “unfolding of the mystery” surrounding the fate of four foreign hostages abducted in July 1995.

GUWAHATI: Seven militants were killed and a huge cache of arms and ammunition recovered during separate encounters with the security forces in Lower Assam since Sunday, official reports said.
