MUMBAI: The Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police is investigating double-your-money-in-one-month scheme floated by a BEST employee, Sherekar. An EOW team tonight carried out a search at Sherekar’s residence and office. According to Reserve Bank of India rules, no agency can offer higher interest rates than those prescribed by it. Yet Sherekar offered high interest rates to investors. Reportedly, Sherekar could not explain his source of funds to provide the “doubled money”.

6 jawans killed

GUWAHATI: Six jawans died on the spot and two others were seriously injured when suspected United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA) militants blew up their vehicle through a powerful remote control device in lower Assam’s Darrang district today. Official reports reaching here said the Army personnel were on patrol duty when the militants blew up their vehicle using improvised explosive device at Kabirali village in Tangla Police Station area of Darrang district.

KARACHI: Five people, including two policemen and a political activist, were killed in fresh violence in Karachi on Wednesday, police and hospital sources said. Two police constables, who were on a motorcycle, were shot dead by two gunmen in the city’s central north Nazimabad area, the police said.
