NEW DELHI: The government on Wednesday increased the price of diesel by 10 to 11 paise per litre effective from Wednesday midnight. The revision is in accordance with the government decision to link diesel prices to import parity levels, an official statement said here on Wednesday.

IMPHAL: Two persons were killed, one police constable was injured and six rifles were looted when armed activists attacked security guards at the Deputy Commissioner’s bungalow at Bishenpur district in Manipur. Official sources said on Wednesday one civilian was killed in a cross-fire and another police constable was injured when 20 activists attacked the security guards posted at the deputy commissioner’s residence on Tuesday. The activists overpowered the security guards and took away six rifles and some ammunition. A combing operation has been launched.
CHENNAI: A division bench of the Madras High Court on Wednesday stayed the order of a single judge directing former Tamil Nadu chief minister Jayalalitha and two other industrialists to compensate the state government the loss of Rs 28.29 crore suffered by it for renouncing TIDCO’s share in the petrochemical giants- SPIC.
AGARTALA: The fifth and final phase of repatriation of the Chakma refugees from Tripura, would start from early next month ending the 11-year-old problem, state revenue secretary Sudhir Sharma said. A high-level meeting of officials from both the countries would take place shortly to chalk-out the modalities of repatriation of the refugees to their native land, he said.
