ISLAMABAD, December 4: Two days after President Farooq Ahmad Leghari’s resignation, hectic parleys have begun between ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML) and its allies to elect a new incumbent. Senate chairman Wasim Sajjad is currently the acting President, but according to the constitution, a new president should be elected within 30 days after the post falls vacant.

Haryana firing

CHANDIGARH: At least three people were injured today when police opened fire to disperse a mob of farmers who had blocked the Bhiwani-Jind road to protest against the arrest of Bhartiya Kisan Union general secretary Nafe Singh in an alleged sabotage case. Singh was arrested on December 2.

Coimbatore tense

COIMBATORE: Tension prevailed in Udumalpet town, about 50 km from here, following the death of three women in a powerful bomb explosion last night. However, the situation is peaceful now. A bomb planted on a cycle exploded near a lodging complex in the busy bus stand area at Udumalpet last night.
