ISLAMABAD: Queen Elizabeth II will not be apologising for the massacre of Jallianwala Bagh during her 12-day tour of the sub-continent which begins tomorrow.

The Queen, who will be visiting the sub-continent after a gap of 36 years, arrives here at 1000 hours tomorrow and will be attending various engagements at Islamabad, Karachi and Lahore during her six-day state visit, he said.

Urea scam case

NEW DELHI: Two top executives of the Turkish firm, Karsan, Tunkay Alancus and Cihan Karanci, were today interrogated by the CBI in connection with the Rs 133 crore urea scam. The duo, under CBI custody since they arrived here on October 3 from Switzerland, were questioned about the role of various persons in the scam, CBI sources said.

STOCKHOLM: Stanley Prusiner, a US biochemist whose discovery provided key insights into dementia-related diseases, has won the 1997 Nobel Medicine Prize, Sweden’s Karolinska Institute said today. The institute said Prusiner’s work helped the world to understand more about Alzheimer’s and Mad Cow disease through his discovery of the prion.

CST shootout

MUMBAI: President of Solapur Zilla Parishad’s health and education samiti was among three persons injured in a daring shootout at the busy Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus (CST) here this morning. The shootout, which resulted out of personal enmity, created commotion at the busy CST.
