NEW DELHI: Eminent jurist Soli J Sorabjee has been appointed Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Nigeria. According to a statement issued by the United Nations, Sorabjee will hold “direct contacts” with the authorities and the people of Nigeria and report to the Commission on Human Rights. Sorabjee, former Attorney General and an expert in constitutional law and human rights, succeeds T Maluwa of Malawai.

Allotment case

NEW DELHI: The Delhi High Court today cancelled eight more petrol pumps allotted by the then petroleum minister, Satish Sharma, from his discretionary quota during 1994-95. A division bench cancelled these allotments terming them as “arbitrary” and observed that the minister allotted them without even verifying bare necessary requirements.

Sensex dips
