SATARA, Oct 4: Defence Minister George Fernandes today reiterated that Central cabinet was firm on dismissing the Bihar Government.
The recommendation to dismiss Rabri Devi’s Government would be forwarded again when a similar situation would arise, Fernandes said speaking to media persons after a rally of Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation workers, here.
He accused the Rabri Devi Government of misappropriating funds. He said Bihar was the only State where development was trailing. This could affect the entire country, he said. The Defence Minister said Maharashtra had not reached the situation where use of Article 356 would be necessary.
Earlier, Fernandes inaugurated the S T Kamgar Bhavan here and visited the Sainik School run by the Defence Ministry. The Defence Minister’s visit to this erstwhile princely town however was an affair with a difference. Unlike the previous defence ministers, Fernandes landed in Satara without the usual security hassles and the flamboyance which goes with a Union Minister.
Fernandes freely mixed with the people and heard their grievances. When newsmen questioned him, Fernandes said, “Using helicopters and maintaining huge security posse means incurring heavy expenses to the Government. I am a simple man. Why would any one attack me?”
Satara Division S T Kamgar Union had organised two-day State-level meet here. All the office-bearers of the employees’ union were present. The meet discussed the issues of additional staff and vehicles, stopping of private bus services by private bus owners, facility to employees and passengers and repairs of buses.
