Congress MP Rahul Gandhi will hit the road again in Kanpur during the last few days of campaigning for the first phase of the Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections on April 8. Priyanka Gandhi too will campaign for the party, but confine herself to Amethi-Rae Bareli area, which will go to the polls in the sixth phase. Rahul’s next roadshow is likely to begin on April 3 and end on April 5, the last day of campaigning for the first phase. The last day will see a rally with Congress president Sonia Gandhi. Congress sources say the route in Kanpur division will be carefully chosen in order to ensure wider public presence. Though Rahul Gandhi will continue his roadshow, despite the security concerns raised by the Special Protection Group (SPG), his movement and interactions will be considerably restrained and planned. Rahul is quite happy with his first real brush with heartland politics during the roadshow in Western UP earlier this month. But the show in Western UP was hurriedly organised and required some crisis management after the first day.
