Harare, Nov 11: South Africa restricted Zimbabwe to 48 for three before rain washed out the opening day of the second Test today.
Opener Grant Flower pushed forward tentatively to a delivery from Lance Klusener to be caught at second slip by Jacques Kallis. Zimbabwe were six for two three balls later when Shaun Pollock’s away-swinger came off the face of Trevor Gripper’s bat and clipped the top of his stumps.
A downpour halted play for three and half hours. Murray Goodwin was dismissed for 17 nine balls after resumption when he edged a delivery from Pollock to Hansie Cronje at third slip.
Both teams observed a minute’s silence before the match in memory of Malcolm Marshall. The South Africans wore black armbands, along with Neil Johnson, who played for Natal during Marshall’s four-season stint with the Province.
