The Budget session of the Rajasthan Assembly had a stormy beginning on Thursday with four MLAs being suspended on the very first day. The legislators were suspended for creating a ruckus during the Governor’s address. Around 13 senators from Spain, who were present in the Assembly, also witnessed the pandemonium.

According to sources, Speaker Sumitra Singh had hosted an all-party MLA lunch on Wednesday and specifically asked them to let the ‘proceedings continue peacefully in front of the guests on Thursday.’

However, just as Governor Pratibha Patil began her address, CPM MLA Amraram started protesting against the state government, calling it anti-farmer. He also alleged that by not allowing the farmers to agitate in the state capital last week, it has behaved in an undemocratic manner.

Although Patil assured him that he would be given a chance to speak, Amraram moved to the centre of the hall and started raising slogans against the government. He was soon joined by three other MLAs — BSP’s Suresh Meena and Morarilal Meena, and LJP’s Raghuvirshingh Guda.

This was followed by arguments between the Congress and BJP MLAs, when the BJP state chief Mahaveer Prasad Jain floated the proposal of suspending the four MLAs. Despite the Congress raising objections, the ruling party passed the proposal, suspending the four MLAs for the rest of the session.
