Embarrassed by the demand for Union Minister Vasundhara Raje’s resignation by Central BJP treasurer Ramdas Agrawal, the BJP high command, which always swears by the ‘‘one-man, one-post’’ norm, made a feeble attempt today to push the issue under the carpet.

Raje is also the Rajasthan BJP chief and the man seeking her resignation is none other than the central party in-charge of the state. Agrawal made a case for Raje’s resignation yesterday by telling the media in Jaipur that she should not be an exception to the ‘‘one-man, one-post norm’’ as M. Venkaiah Naidu and Arun Jaitley had quit ministerial posts to take up organisational responsibilities.

Agrawal said it was all right for Raje to hold dual charge for a short while but she must not do so for long. BJP general secretary Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said the ‘‘one-man, one-post’’ norm was not a rule in the party. ‘‘It is only a tradition.’’ He said Raje had offered to resign from the government but the party had asked her to continue as a minister. Naqvi claimed that Agrawal has informed him that he did not ask for Raje’s resignation.
