On Friday, the Vasundhara Raje Government extended a special Diwali gift for agitating Gurjjars in the state. In a meeting with community leaders, it assured that all cases registered against them would be withdrawn soon.

The Gurjjars had courted mass arrests on October 2, demanding that the state Government issue a letter of recommendation in favour of including the community in the ST category and also withdraw police cases filed against them during the May-June agitation.

They also demanded that kin of the victims who had lost their lives during the agitation be provided with jobs and suitable compensation to those who were injured.

While accepting the last demand then, the Government agreed to look into the demands for withdrawal of cases and sending the recommendation letter.

There are more than 40 cases against the Gurjjar leaders, including Col Kirorisingh Bainsla and Roop Singh. Most of these cases were registered at Dausa, Karauli, Sawai Madhopur and Ajmer where the agitation had turned violent.

“In a welcome move, the state Government has agreed to withdraw all cases against us. We now only have to hold discussion regarding the recommendation letter,” said Manju Gurjjar, a senior leader who attended the Friday meeting.
