NEW DELHI, July 15: Rajeev Balakrishnan continued to bring down his personal best in the 100m even as he began running the 200 metres, too. A few weeks after clocking 10.36s, he recorded 10.34s to win the Los Gatos All-comers Track meet in California.

Rajeev’s time, if and when recognised by the Amateur Athletic Federation of India, would constitute a new National record. Present, the National record has been credited to Amit Khanna, who won the National Games in 10.54s last month.

Meanwhile, Rajeev also started running the 200m on the local circuit. At the Los Gatos meet he timed 21.17 seconds, a personal best and within striking distance of the sub-21 seconds, a zone that has eluded Indians since the days of Milkha Singh. Recently, Rajeev was joined by former Asian junior 400m champion, Siddharth Basak, also being sponsored by JCT.

The latter has, however, been competing in the 800m to work on his endurance. After a few more meets in the next six weeks, Rajeev plans to come to India to participate in the Permit meet in New Delhi on September 16.
