Acting happened to me and so did directing,” says Raju Kher, who’s turned director with the tele-serial, Sanskar. As the name suggests, the serial depicts the forgotten values of yore and the resultant chaos in the contemporary society. Weaved around two families, the story has one family swearing by old values of life and the other living by today’s rules.
“The serial basically reflects my thinking. Lo-ok at the way our grandparents led their lives. Though there were difficulties then, they were reasonably happy because money was not their main driving force. Today all of us are after making money by hook or crook, but where have we reached? If we go out we are not sure of returning home safely. It’s a scary life,” philosophises Kher.
Raju Kher started out with a small role in Ravi Rai’s Imtihaan around four years ago and has made a place for himself in the tele-world with umpteen roles. His decision to go behind the camera was not influenced by anyone, including big brother Anupam Kher.
“I found everybody making pilots. I myself have acted in over 200 pilots of which hardly a handful are on air. That’s when I thought, why shouldn’t do one myself. If it clicks fine, too. Luckily, I got a good subject and here I am,” he says matter-of-factly.
Pointing out that he has no intentions of preaching or conveying messages, Kher is honest in saying that he is holding it only to “make money”.
Sanskar, which airs on Zee, stars Govind Namdeo, Madhuri Sanjeev, Anang Desai, Virendra Saxena, Prabha Sinha and R. Mahadevan.
Chandrakanta sets revenue record on DD IT’S been a mixed fortnight for Chandrakanta. First it set a record taking in over 25 minutes of commercials on its DD-1, all-new episodes, comeback. Then producer Nirja Guleri and STAR Plus mutually decided th-at they would discontinue the serial on STAR Plus.
Chandrakanta took in 35 sponsors and 68 commercials on its DD 1 run, raking in a extremely high viewership ratings also. But this seemed to have affected the serial repeat value on STAR Plus. The series also holds the all-time record on Indian TV for a series clocking 27 minutes, 25 seconds of ad time on its Spetember 27, 1995 telecast.
