NEW DELHI, September 16: Rakhi Mehra of St. Stephen’s College dominated the first day’s events, taking six of the eight gold medals as well as establishing three meet record in the women’s section in the Delhi University inter-college aquatic meet at the Talkotara Pool here today.

Rakhi first won the 100m backstroke event in 1:16.86 to erase former Stephenian Mani Kankana’s record of 1:18.80 set in 1983. Naina Sen of St. Stephen’s and Jassica Chen of Jesus and Mary College finished second and third, respectively.

In 100m freestyle, Rakhi won the gold when she was clocked 1:01.52 to beat the previous mark of 1:11.15 set by St. Stephen’s Topsy Ahluwalia three years ago. Naina Sen grabbed the silver while Jesus & Mary’s Jessica Chen got the bronze with timing of 1:14.30 and 1:16.38, respectively. Rakhi Mehra also set a meet record as she came first with time of 1:15.81 in 100m butterfuly event. Rakhi’s time was 4.01 sec better than the existing record set by Mani Kankana of St. Stephen’s College in 1993.
