Buoyed by its success in forcing the Tamil film industry to stop naming movies in English, the Tamil Protection Movement is now turning its attention to other ways by which the language can be promoted.

PMK leader S. Ramadoss, who is spearheading the protest, said his next campaign would be to replace English with Tamil on the boards of shops and establishments in Chennai.

The Movement has also lined up a series of programmes from November 2 to the end of December. As a prelude, ‘‘a warning conference’’ has been planned on October 23 in the city.

Ramadoss said on November 2, notices will be distributed to all shop-owners advising them to stick to Tamil on the nameboards. They will be given a month to comply, failing which volunteers of the Movement will deface the boards.
