DHAKA, February 22: Former Indian opener Raman Lamba's condition tonight was described as "very grave" as he slipped into deep coma after an emergency brain surgery here, doctors attending on him said.The 38-year-old Delhi batsman who was operated on the left side of the brain this afternoon for the severe head injuries he suffered on Friday while fielding was kept on ventilator support, professor Rashiduddin Ahmed, neuro surgery department head at the institute of postgraduate medicine and research (IPGMR) told PTI tonight."The operation was done for international decompression but there has not been any sign of improvement in his condition after the surgery. Lamba's condition remains very grave," Rashiduddin who performed the operation said.Lamba took a full-blooded shot on his forehead while stationed at forward short-leg playing for Abahani Krira Chakra against Mohammedan Sporting in the Premier League.Lamba, playing in the "Janakantha" Premier Division Cricket League at the Dhaka Stadium, wasfielding at forward shortleg without a helmet when a full-blooded pull by Mehrab Hossain off left-arm spinner Saifullah Khan hit Lamba's head. The hit was so ferocious that the ball deflected from his head flew into stumper Khaled Masud's gloves.The player subsequently walked off the field and was resting, but 10 minutes later complained of uneasiness and pain and was immediately taken to a city clinic.
