NEW DELHI, OCT 31: Jyoti Randhawa called it just another putt and just another day in the office. Sammy Daniel’s missed birdie putt on the 18th not only cost him a chance to go into a play-off with Randhawa, but possibly $ 10,000 too and a two-year-exemption that comes with the win. Even as the crowd milled around the 18th green waiting for Randhawa’s final putt, Daniels was standing near the club house, waiting for a possible play-off.

The South African had just missed a birdie putt from about 15 feet and merely parred the final hole. After leading the field for most part of the back nine, he now waited to see if Randhawa, who had caught up with him with a birdie on the 17th, could birdie the final hole and carry off the prize once again. Randhawa’s approach shot on the par five 18th flew a little to the left and into the crowd, but instead of going into the dangerous left bushes, it hit a buggy and rolled back onto the rough on the edge of the green. Randhawa chipped out to just three feet and holed thebirdie putt and went 11 under to Daniel’s 10 under.

Jeev Milkha Singh, hopelessly placed at around 60th after two rounds and who barely managed to make the cut, played sublime golf and turned in the tournament’s best card, a 66, to leap-frog dramatically to the joint sixth spot with Arjun Singh and Mukesh Kumar. The 17-year-old amateur Ashok Kumar was going well till he dropped seven strokes in four holes between the 13th and 16th holes and finally ended up seven over, overall 18th but was the top amateur.
