Jyoti Randhawa started the European Tour BMW PGA Championship on an impressive note to be placed tied fourth after completing his first round on Thursday.

He finished with a four-under, two shots behind England’s Paul Brondhurst, who was the clubhouse leader with almost half the players yet to complete their rounds.

Randhawa shares the fourth spot with world no. 5 Ernie Els, Miko Ilonen, YE Yang and Marcus Fraser. Randhawa made six birdies and two bogeys at the Wentworth Club golf course in Surrey, England on way to his four-under 68.

After his first birdie on the par five fourth, he had a stretch of three consecutive birdies from the sixth to the eighth, making the turn at a brilliant 4-under.

The back nine was more damaging to his card. After another birdie on the 12th, the Indian dropped a shot immediately on the next hole. He made another bogey on the 15th, but recovered with a birdie on the

17th hole.

Jeev Milkha Singh was yet to complete his round and was placed tied 82th after being two-over after 6 holes.

Ghei on a roll

Seoul: In the Asian Tour SK Telecom Open, Gaurav Ghei returned a flawless five-under 67 to take a share of the sixth place after the opening round at the BA Vista Country Club here today.

The Delhi professional, who has already won one title and came within a whisker of another, fired five birdie.

Among other Indians in the fray, Amandeep Johl (70) was lying tied 25th while Rahil Gangjee and fellow Kolkatan SSP Chowrasia returned one-under 71 each for the tied 44th spot. In contrast, Digvijay Singh shot a horrendous six-over 78 with one triple and one quadruple bogey, to be tied 143rd.
