Senior advocate Ranjit Kumar is being considered as one of the probables to replace Gujarat government’s special counsel in the Supreme Court, K T S Tulsi, who has threatened to resign if Chief Minister Narendra Modi does not apologise for his remarks justifying Sohrabuddin Sheikh’s fake encounter.

The government is yet to receive a letter from Tulsi, saying he was resigning as special counsel in the Supreme Court, whose directives led to the probe into the fake encounter case.

“He has, however, informed our other counsel in the Supreme Court that he may not continue in the post,” a senior official said.

“Once we receive a formal letter from Tulsi, a decision on his replacement would be taken,” the official added.
