NEW DELHI, AUG 21: Former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao on Monday sought three weeks time from the Supreme Court to file his reply to a CBI petition challenging his discharge from the St Kitts forgery case.

A division Bench comprising Justice M B Shah and Justice S N Phukan agreed to the plea of Rao’s counsel Rajiv Dutta and posted the case for hearing after five weeks.

The Apex Court had issued notices to Rao and former Union Minister K K Tewary on the CBI petition challenging the Delhi High Court order which upheld the trial court’s decision to discharge them from the case.

CBI had alleged that these two along with self-styled godman Chandraswamy and latter’s aide Kailash Nath Aggarwal had forged bank papers to show that former prime minister V P Singh’s son Ajey Singh had an account in the First Trust Corporation Ltd at St Kitts in the Caribbean Islands.

The forged papers also showed that the account had a deposit of 21 million dollars of which V P Singh was a beneficiary, the CBI alleged and said this was done to defame the former prime minister who was emerging as an alternative to the Congress leadership then.
