The Supreme Court, while refusing to make public the contents of the infamous CD involving Samajwadi Party General Secretary Amar Singh and few others, however on Monday strongly indicated that it would examine the plea later, thereby keeping the petition alive. Stating that it would hear the plea at the next date, the Bench strongly noted, “In this issue, conflicting interests that of rights of private citizens and public interest are involved.” Assuring the counsel for the petitioner, Prashant Bhushan, that the petition was not being disposed off, the Bench comprising Justices C K Thakker and Altamas Kabir went on to observe, “We have to take care of them and a via media has to be evolved.” The remark came as Bhushan sought a direction from the Court to place on record the transcripts of the CD containing secret conversations between Amar Singh and other bigwigs. The apex court had earlier imposed a blanket ban on the media from publishing contents of the transcripts pertaining to the said CD.
