Apart from bidding for Uttar Pradesh’s distribution companies, the board of of Reliance Energy has approved its participation to bid for the setting up of 1,000 MW thermal Anpara ‘C’ power project in Uttar Pradesh. This will be third mega project announced by Reliance Energy, led by Anil Ambani, in Uttar Pradesh. It has already announced its plans to set up a Rs 10,000-crore power project in Dadri and bidding for UP’s power distribution companies which supply power to five key cities. Bids for private sector participation in the Anpara project, which is expected to cost Rs 4,000 crore, were invited by the state-owned Uttar Pradesh Rajya Vidyut Nigam Ltd (UPRVUNL). In a statement, REL said the debt-equity ratio for such infrastructure projects is about 70:30. Hence, its board has approved Rs 1,500 crore of investment as company’s contribution for the project. UPRVUNL, which is responsible for the generation of thermal power in UP, invited the bids on behalf of the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd (UPPCL), which also currently owns the distribution business in UP. The project will be set up on Build, Own, Operate and Maintain (BOOM) basis and located at a distance of 190 kms from Varanasi. The power produced at Anpara will be sold to the distribution companies, undergoing privatisation currently.
