July 30: The rescued newborn baby, abandoned near Marine Driver flyover on July 28 morning, is recovering in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) of Cama Hospital.

As reported in Express Newsline yesterday, a scavenger had noticed a lady in a green Maruti car leaving the infant boy wrapped in plastic cover near the northern end of the flyover. He immediately informed the police and the baby was taken to the Cama Hospital.

“The baby is out of danger,” the Superintendent of the Hospital Dr. K Tripathi told Express Newsline. “It has been exposed to the poor weather on the roadside. It is important to keep him in the ICU for at least a week.” Investigating into the case, the assistant police commissioner (Zone I-Colaba div) Suresh Kandale that two constables have been deployed near the hospital to keep an eye on any visitors to the baby. “The visitors would be examined carefully.” Denying that the baby suffered any serious injuries, a doctor of the Cama Hospital, said, “The blood found on the baby was not his own. It was his mother’s which is found in any delivery.” He disclosed that the baby weighed three kilos and the umbilical cord was cut but not tied up.He added that after seven days the child would be transferred to children’s ward and then any interested couple can adopt him.
