NEW DELHI, NOV 13: BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi on Saturday said that there was need for a "rethink" on the entire issue of reservations, specially for the minorities who have been used as "vote banks" only for electoral benefit."The concept of reservation needs a rethink even though some Muslim organisations think that reservation is un-Islamic. It was not so and it was essential for humanitarian purpose of uplift of those who are economically backward as also in view of large-scale unemployment among them," he said. The former minister said since this community was economically backward and lacked education, the BJP was preparing a strategy for bringing them into the national mainstream. He said in view of the strategy being worked out by the party, there was need for a rethink to give reservation to minority communities, specially the Muslims. Naqvi said despite the propaganda against the BJP that the party was against the minorities, there had been a perceptible shift of Muslim support to theBJP in the recent Lok Sabha elections.
