The first casualty after the return of Pramod Mahajan to the organisation would be his brother-in-law Gopinath Munde, who is set to lose the vice-presidency of the BJP.
According to BJP sources, Munde would also lose charge of Maharashtra as a ‘‘prabhari’’ (in-charge) alongside. Munde, who is saddled with three responsibilities, has to relinquish two of them due to over-representation of Maharashtra in the party set-up. He would, however, retain the leadership of the BJP legislature group in the Assembly.
BJP spokesman Sunil Shastri is tipped for the membership of the Planning Commission. Ved Prakash Goel is likely to be assigned the Overseas Friends of the BJP.
General secretary Anita Arya, charged with inaction, may get a reprieve because of her Dalit credentials.
A hunt is on to find a replacement for secretary Jaskaur Meena following her induction in to the ministry.
Several heads are set to roll as far as ‘‘prabharis’’ of states are concerned. The party president is devising a new formula to camouflage it. The formula is the removal of all those who are overseeing their home-states.
This may, therefore, mean the exit of Kailashpati Mishra (Bihar), Kalraj Mishra (Uttar Pradesh), Lakhiram Agrawal (Chhattisgarh) and secretary L Ganesan (Tamil Nadu).
