MUMBAI, Jan 10: The Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus reservation centre today wore a deserted look with computerised reservations for long distance trains called off for a day as the mainframe of the Mumbai Passenger Reservation System (PRS) situated at CST was made online.

The earlier impress’ software has now been replaced by concert’ software. As a result all terminals in Mumbai from which reservations could be made were shut today. All other computerised facilities like online enquiry numbers were also shut for the day.

To lessen passenger misery, CR provided more current manual reservation, refund and cancellation booths for trains leaving Sunday upto 12.00 noon the next day. The tatkal scheme facilities available for some trains was also open till 2 pm.

One of the highlights of the new software which will start functioning at 8 am Monday onwards, is that passengers can make both onward and return journey reservations for Delhi and Howrah from the same queue. However, as the Mumbai mainframe is yetto be linked to the PRS computers at Chennai, this applies only to trains going to these two centres.

The Central and Western Railways carried out cancellations for Delhi, Howrah, Chennai and Secunderabad trains, according to railway officials.
