December 25: An aborted attempt to rob a financier proved to be the undoing for Inder Singh Gurudayal Singh who was nabbed by the Pant Nagar police today afternoon

.Singh, along with an accomplice, had barged into the Kokani lane office of the financier at Ghatkopar (E) and fired at him with a country-made pistol. When an alarm was raised by the staff, Singh tried to flee from the scene in a Maruti van with changed registration number. He was intercepted by a patrol vehicle of Pant Nagar police.

"Though he fired at us, we managed to overpower him and recover two country-made pistols from his person," said police inspector Tukaram Bagal. Gurudayal is being questioned to identify his accomplice who managed to escape. Singh had been on bail in a case of double murder which took place in 1987 and was operating in the Chirag Nagar area of Ghatkopar (E). "He is accused of killing the driver and cleaner of a truck at Vapi in Gujarat," said PI Ashok Khalari. The case is pending at the City Civil and Sessions court.
