
MUMBAI, Aug 2: Substitute Trevor Rodrigues’ header, seven minutes from time, saved Income-Tax from defeat against Bombay Customs in their WIFA Senior Division match at the Cooperage today.
In the event, the taxmen eked out a honourable draw (2-2).
Customs took the lead in the very first minute through a spot-kick. Customs’ Milton Fernandes was brought down by I-T’s Clifford Pereira and Surender Kumar converted with ease.
Five minutes before the break, I-T’s PK Rameshan went down in a goal-post melee following a free-kick. Pereira made no mistake from the spot found I-T leveling the scores. The half-time score read 1-1.
Customs surged ahead once again when the dangerous Fahim Mohammad passed square for the omni-present Sydney D’Silva to strike home in the 60th minute.And just when all seemed lost for I-T, Rajesh Pendurkar’s accurate cross off a corner kick found its way to Rodrigues for the equaliser.
Earlier, Sea View defeated Customs Boys 1-0 in a Division I encounter. Murali Raman scored the winner.
BPSC HOLD RHINO: A forceful Bandra Packers Sports Club (BPSC) held local favourites Rhino Sports Club to a goalless draw in their Mumbai District Football Association’s Harwood League encounter at the St Xavier’s ground, Parel.
Earlier, Borivlians Sports Club also drew with Khalsa Gymkhana (A) 1-1, in the Div-I league encounter for the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Trophy. Anish Kanchan (7th min) and Amrit Anand (42nd min) were the scorers for Borivilians and Khalsa respectively.
In a Div III league encounter, Maharashtra Labour Welfare Board (NM Joshi Road) rode on Karan Patil’s goal to defeat Don Bosco Oratory (B) 1-0.
