The swearing in of Independent MLA Filipe Neri Rodrigues has not ended the impasse over his demand that he be appointed the deputy CM in the Congress-led Pratapsinh Rane government.
Rodrigues was disqualified by Speaker Vishwas Satarkar after he withdrew support to the the last BJP government of Manohar Parrikar and backed the Congress-led government. The Panaji Bench of the Bombay High Court set aside the disqualification on Wednesday.
Immediately after his swearing-in, Rodrigues said he would not press for the post, but the CM should keep his promise. ‘‘I have made a sacrifice and faced mental agony and my constituency needs immediate attention,’’ he said. CM Pratapsinh Rane said the the decision about his demand for Dy Chief Ministership would be decided in Delhi. ‘‘High Command will take the decision shortly,’’ he said.
Though BJP MLAs did not attend the ceremony, Opposition leader Manohar Parrikar said this was not a boycott.
