NEW DELHI, July 26: As expected, the Amateur Athletic Federation of India (AAFI) today named a two-member team, comprising quarter-miler Rosa Kutty and thrower Shakti Singh, both of the Railways, to represent India in the World Athletics Championships in Athens from August 1 to 10.

Lalit K Bhanot, the AAFI secretary, said here that Shakti Singh has qualified in discuss when he surpassed the qualifying mark set by the International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) with an effort of 60.04 metres during the Chennai Domestic Meet last July.Rosa had set the qualifying time in 800m (2:01.7 secs)

in an international meet held at Tooting Bec (England) during the Indian team’s recent training-cum-competition programme in Europe.

The IAAF’s `B’ qualifying standard in discuss event is 60.00 mts and for the women’s 800m it is 2:03.00 secs.According to Bhanot, the entry of Paramjeet Singh in 400 metres has also been sent but the AAFI and the athlete are unaware whether the IAAF would accept it.

VENUE MAY BE SHIFTED: Meanwhile, the AAFI is likely to shift the third Domestic Meet from Delhi to Chennai. The meet, scheduled to be held on August 14 at the Nehru Stadium here, will now be held along with the Federation Cup meet in Chennai, scheduled to be held from August 25.

The shifting had been necessitated because the Nehru Stadium has been booked for the National Cadet Corps athletic meet where IK Gujral is to be the chief guest.
