New Zealand coach Ashley Ross today said that the Kiwi team was here to create history.
‘‘So far, this team has created history wherever it played. We won two Tests in England, defeated West Indies in their own country, stunned Australia, clinched the one-day tourney in Sri Lanka and performed well in the World Cup. We want to repeat the same in India,’’ a confident Ross claimed.
When asked whether he had devised any strategy to face the spin duo of Anil Kumble and Harbhajan Singh, Ross said that they were not worried about some particular individuals in the team. ‘‘All the members of the Indian team are world-class players. We cannot single out someone. Everybody are important and we have plans for each and everyone.’’
‘‘India has a great team and a very competitive second string of players. I watched the Irani Trophy match. It was a great match to watch. As all the members of the Indian team had participated in that match, I now have a first hand knowledge of the strengths and weaknesses of the team. That helped us to modify some of the earlier plans we prepared,’’ the Kiwi coach said.
Asked whether he considers his team as underdogs, he said, ‘‘It will benefit us if everybody consider us underdogs.”
‘‘We are not at all worried about the tailor-made tracks. In fact, playing in the subcontinent is not new to us. We had defeated a team like Sri Lanka which is heavily dependent on spin. Moreover we have good spinners in our team. I think of late, Indians are giving due importance to bouncy wickets,’’ Ross said.
