The Delimitation Commission has recommended for rotation of Scheduled Caste constituencies. “Some of the constituencies were reserved for several decades. This should not happen, there should be some methodology,” Delimitation Commission chairman Justice Kuldip Singh said here on Friday.

“The Commission recommends that the Government consider incorporating suitable provisions in law to provide for rotation in the reservation of SC constituencies,” he said, adding that it was up to the Government to decide on it.

Constituencies, Justice Singh said, should be “redrawn after every ten years”. “The Commission is firmly of the view that delimitation should be carried out after every Census, so that readjustment of the constituencies, including changes and alterations, are not too extensive and the value of electoral vote remains more or less of equal weight,” he said.

The Election Commission, meanwhile, said it was ready to hold the next Lok Sabha elections as per redrawn constituencies “any time after August 31”. “Our electoral rolls, revised according to the newly delimited constituencies, will be ready by August 31,” Chief Election Commissioner N Gopalaswamy told reporters on Friday.
